Today was a sad day for Snooker…
As we all know Snooker hasn’t been at is best health last few years, things have changed, some say it’s because the lack of money around it, some say it’s the result of bad work and wrong decisions from previous boards at WPBSA, some even say Snooker became a bit boring to watch, etc…
All these things might be true in some ways, but when it comes to solve the Snooker problems...
Who said the structure of the game itself need to be changed?
Who said Snooker needs new rules or a casino style thing with “pinball” points to gain public back?
Who said Snooker needs to have a owner or that this sport can be owned by few?
Who said Snooker needs to adapt to modern days?
Who said Snooker needs to be entertaining with party people shouting around the table, instead of a serious and respectful sport with real admires inside or around it?
Who said Snooker needs to be liked by all, instead of just the ones who are at its level?
Who said or thinks they can say Goodbye to Snooker?
The answer for this one comes with a bigger problem, when some of today’s Snooker protagonists and part of the Sport’s image, instead of defending their “brand” when attacked by individuals (with different beliefs, no respect to the Sport and that tries to make them and their origins for success look like fools), they go along with it…. There are many ways and solutions to solve today’s Snooker problems, but before, some of today’s Players need to go back in time in search of the feeling and real reason that moved them when they proudly started playing this fine and classy Sport…
Note:
Innovative Snooker tournament format concepts, where the game itself keeps its original and traditional standards are very promising and should be welcome to this Sport as parallel tournaments, ONEFORSEVEN is a good example of initiatives that should be supported.
